Arts Partnerships Program
ETC Arts Partnerships Program creates long-term partnerships with local schools and other community based organizations. The partnerships allow for development of widely available, community-based, arts education. By partnering with local schools and their PTAs or other community-based organizations, ETC is able to create arts and arts education opportunities at the local level by using its partners' facilities.
The Arts Partnership Program provides arts and arts education opportunities to students who would not otherwise have access to them. ETC has expanded its Partnerships to include other community-based organizations in order to continue to create arts access to underserved communities.
Currently, ETC has ten Arts Partnerships in place, and it expects to add two to three new Arts Partnerships in 2008.
Arts Partnerships
-
McKinley Elementary School - McKinley Elementary School is ETCs model partnership and is our longest running partnership. ETC partners with McKinley and McKinley Children's Theater to produce original musicals in the Fall and Spring Semesters. ETC also offers after school drama classes as well as summer drama camps at McKinley Elementary. ETC has also conducted teacher training workshops for McKinley staff for Arts Integration. - AHC Inc. - AHC Inc. is a private, nonprofit developer of quality affordable housing in the Washington-Baltimore region. ETC has partnered with AHC Inc. (formerly Arlington Housing Corporation) to offer drama programs at several of AHC's on-site community centers, such as Harvey Hall, Virginia Gardens and Woodbury Park.
- Arlington Mill Continuing Education High School - Since its inception in 1929, the High School Continuation Program has offered students an alternative way to earn a high school diploma. Although students are responsible to the same course requirements, numbers of credits, and SOL assessment verification as students in the comprehensive high schools, the program offers flexibility in the way and timeframe in which students can earn a high school diploma. ETC was approached by the Arlington Mill High School Continuation Program to launch a new Arts Partnerships program with them modeled after our successful in-school programs throughout the Arlington School District in 2005. ETC worked with the teachers and students at Arlington Mills to develop an in-school infrastructure for the arts. As the artist in residence at Arlington Mills, ETC offered two spring productions in 2006 and 2007 that culminated in performances for the school and community while adhering to the state mandated arts and Language Arts curricula.
- Arlington Traditional School - Arlington Traditional School (ATS) is an unique school in Arlington County. The primary emphasis is on a traditional education with a strong academic program based upon high expectations for every student. There is a safe, caring climate of respect and cooperation. Every child, family, and staff member has made an active choice to be at this school and embraces the idea of a traditional education. ETC partners with ATS to provide Creative Play classes for K-2 and Improvisation classes for 3-5.
- ArtStream - ArtStream is a regional organization based in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area, formed by a group of caring artists who are passionate about their mission to create artistic opportunities for individuals in communities traditionally underserved by the arts. We believe that the transformative power of the arts should be available to everyone, especially those who are challenged by disabilities or life circumstances, to express their full humanity for their own growth and the benefit of those around them. More importantly, we are all experienced professionals who have seen the power of the arts at work in these settings, and are excited to spread the "magic". It is the fervent mission of the members of ArtStream to fill the gap in arts programming between what is currently being provided in these communities and what is needed. ETC partners with ArtStream to offer their unique services to the Arlington and Northern Virginia area.
- Barrett Elementary School - Kate Waller Barrett Elementary School offers a quality education to all children in a caring environment that recognizes and respects multicultural diversity. - Carlin Springs Elementary School - Carlin Springs is Arlington's model "community school." The school facility is used as a base to support students and their families by addressing not only academic needs, but also social, emotional, and health needs through linkages to community partners. By addressing the needs of the "whole child," we enhance student success in school and in the larger community. ETC partners with Carlin Springs to to provide Creative Play classes for K-2 and 3-5 that focus on literacy and language.
- City of Falls Church - ETC partners with the City of Falls Church Recreation and Parks Division to offer three one week summer drama camps in August. Past offerings have included Radio Drama, Improvisation, Shakespeare and Stage Combat.
- Higher Achievement Program - Higher Achievement Program (HAP) closes the achievement gap by offering motivated middle school students from under-served areas an opportunity-rich, nationally recognized year-round educational and high school preparatory program. The program, held after school and during the summer, culminates in top high school placement. Each year, Higher Achievement helps 400 students achieve academic excellence. Grades improve, test scores improve, and academic behaviors are fostered through a program that works.
